Gladiators: Haye v Bellew
On Saturday March 5th, the boxing event of the year took place at the O2 Arena in London, as David Haye and Tony Bellew went into the ring for the grudge match of all grudge matches! As you’ll no doubt be aware, the result defied all expectations and odds, as Bellew caused Haye to through in the towel in the 11th round.
Whatever the result, the night was simply epic, and the fight was positively gladiatorial – with the enthralled crowd at the sold-out O2 displaying what can only be described as a blood lust! Haye refused to give up despite fighting with a damaged Achilles tendon, that prevented him from firmly planting his right leg and utilising his fearsome power – and Bellew took full advantage.
To say that David Haye absorbed some serious punishment is an under-statement, and his incredible determination has, no doubt, earned him an awful lot of new respect. By the end of the fight it seems that Haye had even earned newfound respect from his opponent, with the sheer courage and focus shown seemingly having evaporated much of the pre-fight animosity between the Haye and Bellew.
As a proud official partner of the Hayemaker for the big fight, EnergyBet was there to support him at the weigh-in and on the night. See what happened when we sent the lovely Cherelle Jay to interview Haye at the weigh-in, and don’t forget to add us on Snapchat for more.
